As one of the many 50th anniversary “Doctor Who” tributes, Puffin Books released the first of eleven mini e-books on Wednesday. Each month a new addition will be released staring one of the Doctors and written by a famous children’s fiction author. The first installment is “A Big Hand for the Doctor” by Eoin Colfer. Centered on William Hartnell’s portrayal of the first Doctor, this whimsical story is a great first narrative in what should prove to be an amazing collection.
Having just lost his hand in a sword fight with a Soul Pirate captain, The Doctor is trying to figure out how to stop the pirates on earth once and for all. With the help of a temporary hand, can the Doctor stop the Soul Pirates before it is too late? Will Susan finally listen to her grandfather and stay in the TARDIS? Without any spoilers, this adventure is a delightful journey in 1900 London. Full of heart and suspense, this short read leaves the reader nostalgic for the first Doctor. It is a great tribute to Hartnell and a wonderful work by Eoin Colfer.
Known for his ‘Artemis Fowl’ series, Eoin Colfer is a highly respected author across the world. The “Artemis Fowl” series saw the release of his eighth installment in 2012. Including this highly acclaimed series and many other books, Colfer’s work regularly appears in the ‘New York Times’ Best Sellers list. In 2009, he released a sixth installment of “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” titled “And Another Thing…”. Previously written by Douglas Adams, the Adams estate asked Colfer to write the sixth book that Adams’ had always intended to complete.
Stay tuned for announcements regarding the upcoming stories in this collection. The next installment will be a story about Patrick Troughton‘s second Doctor. Each book can be purchased from Amazon.
